Fuel price hike is a 'cruel blow to the common man': Golam Parwar
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar has expressed deep concern over the government's decision to increase fuel prices. At the same time, he protested the decision.
In a statement on Sunday (April 19), Golam Parwar said that the newly announced prices have increased by 15 taka per liter for diesel, 18 taka for kerosene, 20 taka for octane and 19 taka for petrol. Such a price increase will have a negative impact on the overall economy of the country and increase the suffering of the common people.
He said that if the price of fuel increases, transportation costs will increase, which will have an impact on daily necessities. As a result, the prices of all types of goods, including food, will increase. He mentioned that the middle-class and low-income people will be the most affected by this.
The statement also said that due to the increase in fuel prices, the production costs of industries will increase, which will ultimately be reflected in the prices of products and inflation may increase further. In addition, it will have an adverse impact on the agricultural sector. The increase in the cost of irrigation, transportation and agricultural inputs will increase the cost of production for farmers, which could pose a threat to food security.
Stating that in the current situation, the common man is struggling to meet the cost of living, Mia Golam Parwar said that in this situation, the increase in fuel prices will be a 'cruel blow'.
He strongly demanded that the government immediately reconsider the decision to increase fuel prices and bring it down to a tolerable level.
