Government is on the wrong track by insulting people: Opposition leader
Opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman believes that the government is insulting the people by ignoring the referendum verdict. Claiming that no referendum has ever been in vain in the history of the world, the Jamaat-e-Islami Amir has told the government, the nation thinks that you are immersed in mistakes. Come out of your mistakes.
Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks at the 'District and Metropolitan Amir Conference' at the Al-Falah Auditorium in the capital's Moghbazar on Friday.
The party's Deputy Amir, Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Executive Council members and Amir-Secretaries of 79 organizational districts and metropolitan cities were present at the conference.
Blaming the government for the rise in commodity prices, Shafiqur Rahman said that prices are rising due to the increase in transportation costs and the pressure of levies due to the energy crisis. Discussions on the electricity crisis, fertilizer crisis, and the rise in commodity prices are not the government's choice, they are just hiding things. Our call is, let's discuss openly and work to overcome the national crisis. This country belongs to everyone.
The opposition leader criticized the government for not passing ordinances such as referendum, prevention of enforced disappearances, human rights commission, appointment of judges in the Supreme Court, Judiciary Secretariat, and Anti-Corruption Commission, saying that the country has been taken towards fascism again.
The opposition leader alleged that attempts are being made to destroy democratic institutions, and said that the cricket board has also been partisanized. Skilled administration employees are being made OSD. The university VC is gone in the blink of an eye! Officials have resigned from the ACC! They are resigning from the Human Rights Commission and writing an open letter! 28 people have been booked for interfering with judges, yet it is being said that judges are independent! The cancellation of the Judges Appointment Ordinance will once again produce judges like Khairul Haque and Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik.
The opposition leader alleged that BNP may want to run the country in a fascist manner. He said, will a mirror house be created again? Otherwise, why would they drop the Prevention of Enforced Disappearances Ordinance? The ordinance to appoint ACC free from political interference has been canceled! Many reforms are needed in the police. The police are also victims of discrimination. But the police commission has been eliminated.
Lakhs of crores of taka have been looted from banks and smuggled abroad. Now, instead of punishing them, the banks have started to be clamped down on. The people, not any party, own the banks. Everyone has to play the role of watchmen, they have to roar. Deposits have to be protected. Jamaat will be with the people in this. No one will bring rights home. You may say, how many more sacrifices? Yes, we have to walk on the path of sacrifice and the dark night will end.
Stating that he rejects the politics of fraud and deceit regarding the referendum with hatred, the Jamaat Amir said that the first referendum held by Ziaur Rahman in 1977 was not in the constitution. The 2026 referendum was also not in the constitution. But if the first one was legitimate, then why shouldn't it be legitimate? Now they are saying 'factum valet'.
Criticizing the interim government, the Jamaat Amir said that they have failed in holding transparent and acceptable elections. Extensive engineering has been done. It came from the mouth of an advisor to the interim government.
Citing the statement of State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam, the opposition leader said that the youth were involved in the coup, and Jamaat was also involved. But Professor Yunus went to the UK and handed over the trophy to the captain. If the trophy was handed over, then what was the need for the election?
Stating that he accepted the election results to avoid an unstable situation, the Jamaat Amir warned the government that this election is not the last election. Those who came to power through the back door in the past have suffered the consequences and left.
Accusing the government of vote rigging, the opposition leader said that Magura was held in 1994 and Bogra in 2006.
